  1.   Description of Version 7.85 of the SPLOT (Screen Plot) Software:

  3.   The SPLOT software will plot two and three dimensional data on the screen
  4.   of an IBM compatible PC with CGA, EGA, VGA or Hercules graphics.  The plot
  5.   can be dumped to an Epson or IBM compatible dot-matrix printer or an HP
  6.   LaserJet compatible laser printer or output to an HPGL compatible plotter.
  7.   The SPLOT software can make a line plot, a smooth curve plot, a scatter
  8.   plot, a step plot or histogram of up to 16000 data points.  Up to 200 sets
  9.   of data can be plotted on the same 2-dimensional plot using either one or
  10.   two vertical axes; multiple data sets can also be plotted as a 3-dimensional
  11.   plot.  The plot can have linear or log axes with auto or manual scaling.
  12.   Two-dimensional plots can also have cumulative normal probability axes,
  13.   error bars and descending as well as ascending axes.  Data can be fit by a
  14.   spline or a least squares polynomial or exponential; a least squares fit
  15.   can optionally be made to pass through specified points.  The Fast Fourier
  16.   Transform can be used to fit the data with a discrete Fourier series and the
  17.   magnitudes of the FFT coefficients can be plotted.  An auxiliary program,
  18.   NLFIT, can fit a nonlinear function to data and use SPLOT to plot the fit.
  19.   Mathematical transformations of the data can be performed by entering
  20.   equations that operate on one or more data sets.  The SPLOT program creates
  21.   a plot by executing a sequence of plot commands which can be typed at the
  22.   keyboard, selected from a menu (using the arrow keys or a mouse) or read
  23.   from a command file; a command file can be used to automatically dump a
  24.   sequence of plots to a printer.  The X and Y values associated with a point
  25.   on the plot can be displayed by centering the point in a pair of crosshairs
  26.   using the arrow keys or a mouse.

  28.   The SPLOT software consists of the following files:
  29.   README       - The file you are now reading.
  30.   SPLOT.EXE    - The program that makes a plot on the screen of a PC.
  31.   PLOTDUMP.COM - A memory resident program that dumps a plot to a printer.
  32.   HPLOT.EXE    - A program that makes a plot on a HPGL compatible plotter.
  33.   SPLOT.DOC    - SPLOT documentation file.
  34.   PLOTDUMP.DOC - PLOTDUMP documentation file.
  35.   HPLOT.DOC    - HPLOT documentation file.
  36.   PAYFORM      - Form to be sent in with payment.
  37.   *.PLT        - Example plot command files.
  38.   DATA*.DAT    - Example data files used by one of the example command files.
  39.   HPCOM1.BAT   - Example configuration of the COM1 port for an HP plotter.
  40.   *.BAS        - Example Basic programs that "shell out" to SPLOT.
  41.   ROOT.EXE     - Program that uses SPLOT as aid in finding root of f(x) = 0.
  42.   POLYROOT.EXE - Program that finds all roots of a polynomial.
  43.   DIFFE        - Program that finds & plots solutions of differential equations
  44.   NLFIT.EXE    - Program that finds & plots nonlinear curve fit.
  45.   *.FIT        - Example curve fits that can be loaded by NLFIT.

  47.   The SPLOT program is started in interactive mode by typing at the DOS
  48.   prompt: SPLOT

  50.   Plot commands can be read and executed from a file by typing at the DOS
  51.   prompt: SPLOT filename

  53.   To see a demo of the types of plots that can be made type at the DOS
  54.   prompt: SPLOT DEMO.PLT

  56.   NOTE: To clear a plot, press the ESC key.

  58.   NOTE: If the demo does not work on your PC then try it again after
  59.         typing the DOS command "SET SPLOT=card/NOM" where "card" is your
  60.         graphics card type: CGA, EGA, VGA or HERCULES; for example, if your
  61.         graphics card type is VGA, type: SET SPLOT=VGA/NOM
